Boss Polymer Technologies inducted to Manufacturing Hall of Fame

Boss Polymer Technologies has been inducted into Australia's Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame in recognition of its innovative solutions and export projects.

Victorian state Minister for Manufacturing, Exports and Trade Richard Dalla-Riva inducted Boss Polymer Technologies into the Hall of Fame at an awards dinner attended by 800 representatives of the state's leading manufacturers.

Norman Mills, Managing Director of Melbourne based Boss Polymer Technologies, said induction to the Hall of Fame was a surprise - and an honour. "The world of manufacturing is not about glitz and glamour - we tend to analyse the business challenge and get down to work on a solution," said Norman Mills.

"So, it was a delight to learn that the work done by our 25 member team is recognised by our manufacturing peers as making a valuable contribution to both technology and our economy. We thank the South East Melbourne Manufacturers' Alliance for nominating our company for this prestigious award.

"We recognised many years ago that Australian plastics manufacturers could not compete with Asia at the commodity end of the market. We concentrate on the technically challenging end where custom engineered polymer solutions can improve design and reduce costs, while delivering a more environmentally sustainable outcome," said Norman Mills.

In 2006, the Society of Automotive Engineers - Australasia awarded Boss an Automotive Engineering Excellence Award for its co-extruded ExWeld self adhesive tape system.

The Olsen Hotel

Boss Polymer specialises in technical design and trouble shooting in a range of different
Industries. Recently we worked with Hyder Consulting, Melbourne Safety Glass and Fastfix Aluminium to design and manufacture a translucent polymer load bearing and sealing system for the glass bottom pool at the Olsen Hotel. This unique glass bottom pool is on the first floor of the hotel and actually overhangs the footpath below. The two part extruded silicone seal was required to support panels of 80mm heat strengthened laminated glass. The continuous seal was designed to blend in aesthetically and to allow for expansion and contraction of the various building materials and surfaces involved. We see ourselves as our clients engineering partner, specialising in technical trouble shooting and design.

Boss invests in an Adapt-a-Lift

Our new Adapt-a-lift forklift has enabled us to dramatically increase the number of pallet spaces in our warehouse. Rather than the standard three metre aisle space, the aisle-master requires only 1.98 metres to turn, this is due to its unique articulated front wheel system. Keeping Boss at the forefront of new technological development in order to enable us to provide the best product and service available in the market place.

2011 Marina Show

Boss Polymer supports Customers at the 2011 Marinas Show held at the Melbourne Convention Centre.
Featuring a stand encompassing a wide variety of our product range, Andrew Megna, one of our Technical Sales Consultants manned the stand which attracted a great deal of interest and discussion by those present. It was a good opportunity to show off our capability range, particularly in co-extrusion, with products encompassing various hardness’s and colours. Many people were unaware of our post work services, that is, cutting, joining, welding, drilling holes etc. There was a great deal of interest in our anti-microbial range of polymers and in our ability to produce rubber products in addition to thermoplastics.
